Grassroots Radio Conference 2015

Transportation

By car

From the north (or west or east)

Take the New York Thruway (I-87) south, get off at exit 21 (Catskill). You can follow the signs to “Hunter”. Turn left from the exit ramp, on route 23B toward Catskill. Follow it to 9W (nine double-you, not nine-west!). Go south on 9W. Just past Price Chopper, the road forks. Take the right fork, the straighter one, route 23A up the hill. Follow it to Palenville, 8.3 miles ahead.

From the south

Take the New York Thruway (I-87) north, get off at exit 20 (Saugerties). Turn left from the exit ramp, on route 32 toward Woodstock. Almost immediately, turn right to stay on 32 toward Cairo and Palenville. At 6 miles the road forks. Take the left fork, the straighter one, route 32A. Follow it to Palenville.

Alternate route from the west

Heading east on I-88 from Binghamton, get off at exit 15 (Oneonta) (oh-nee-ON-ta) Route 23 east. Follow 23 until just past Prattsville. The road forks. Take the right fork, the straighter one, route 23A toward Hunter. Follow it to Palenville. Warning The last 5 miles of this route are very narrow, steep, slow, and twisty. This route is not recommended for large vehicles or trailers!

By train

Amtrak has regular service to Hudson, including many trips from New York, one per day from the east (Boston), two per day from the west (Rochester, Chicago, …) We plan to have a shuttle on Thursday and Sunday.

By bus

There is bus service to Palenville that stops within walking distance of the conference. Unfortunately, the Greyhound and Trailways web sites are hard to deal with and usually can't find the route without help. The route is often indirect, but it might be the cheapest way to get here.

By air

Palenville is located midway between the Albany (ALB) and Newburgh (SWF) airports. The Albany airport is the larger one, with more flights and usually lower fares. The Newburgh (Stewart) airport is smaller. The fare may be lower if you book late.

We plan to have a shuttle on Thursday and Sunday to the Albany airport. Call us with your flight time and we will try to coordinate it.

Or .. you can rent a car and follow the directions “by car”.
